Best K-DRAMA, Watch or Not?

Hello! I've recently regained my interest in blogging and I hope that blogging would become a long term thing for me. If there's any aspects that you think I should improve on, please do tell me!

Korean Drama, aka K-Drama has been growing so quickly that it has caught the public's attention. If you ask 100 girls in my high school if they watch k-drama, I can positively say that there will be at least 70 of them who had/is currently watching k-dramas.

Here are 10 K-Drama's that I've watched which was rated the best k-dramas of all times in several different articles and my personal opinion to whether you should watch it or not.

10. Cheese in the Trap (2016)

Synopsis: Having returned to college after a year long break, due to her family's poor background, Hong Sul, a hard-working over-achiever, inadvertently got on the wrong side of Yoo Jung, her senior who is athletic, good looking, gets good grades and has a kind personality, but also a hidden dark side. From then on her life took a turn for the worse and Sul was almost certain it was all Yoo Jung's doing. So why is he suddenly acting so friendly a year later?

No. of Episodes: 16

Ratings: 5/10

Personal Review: Okay, I know the ratings are actually pretty high but I gave this drama a 5/10 due to these few reasons:

  • Hong Sul seemed confused most of the time and there was no chemistry between her and Yoo Jung at all
  • Yoo Jung's character was good but his expressions in most of the scenes were so blank that I couldn't tell what was the character supposed to portray
  • Back In-Ha was really annoying and it really made me want to throw my computer away
The only reason why I got through the entire drama was Baek In-ho (Seo Kang Joon) who was by far my favourite supporting role coming after Sung Jae of BtoB who starred in Who Are You: School 2015. His role was perfect for him. He looked tough, but is a total softie which is cliche but I really dig it!

7. High School- Love On (2014)

Synopsis: Lee Seul Bi is an angel who is sent to Earth to look after Shin Woo Hyun, who lives with his grandmother and carries emotional scars from being abandoned by his parents. Despite his cold demeanor, Woo Hyun is popular in school because of his good looks and singing ability. Personal Review: Well who am I kidding, I definitely fell in love with Infinite after this show! The two male leads are band mates Woo Hyun & Sung Yeol. The story was cute and it's a very bubbly show. Well I think you would have guessed it considering that the girl is an angel. However, I felt that there were too many excessive fight scenes which were unnecessary as some of the issues were slightly absurd to begin with. BUT, Inspirits would love this! Especially if your bias is Sung Yeol as he doesn't really get a lot of fame in Infinite.

Watch or Not: Watch

6. Pinocchio (2015)

Synopsis: The idealistic Choi In Ha has her work cut out for her when she becomes a broadcast journalist, especially when she suffers from a condition known as “Pinocchio syndrome,” which makes her break out into hiccups whenever she tells a lie. Her rookie colleagues include Choi Dal Po, whose shabby appearance masks his true eloquence and sharp memory; Seo Bum Jo, a wealthy heir who has had everything handed to him in life; and Cha Hye Seung, whose fangirl knowledge comes in handy in covering the news. The 20-something newbie reporters pursue justice as they try to discover themselves in the process.

Watch or Not: Not

If Lee Jong Suk and Park Shin Hye wasn't in this drama, I would not have even considered to watch it. Yes, the plot is good but the drama was dragged and there were many similar scenarios which were unnecessary.

One thing about me, I really hate repeated scenes. I feel that repeated scenes are usually sneaked in to a lot of dramas nowadays just to lengthen the drama so they could earn more from it.

5. Secret Garden (2011)

Synopsis: The drama tells the story of Kim Joo Won, an arrogant and eccentric CEO who maintains the image of seeming perfection, and Gil Ra Im, a poor and humble stuntwoman whose beauty and body are the object of envy amongst top actresses. Their accidental meeting, when Joo Won mistakes Ra Im for actress Park Chae Rin, marks the beginning of a tense, bickering relationship, through which Joo Won tries to hide a growing attraction to Ra Im that both confuses and disturbs him. To complicate matters further, a strange sequence of events results in them swapping bodies.

Ratings: 8.5/10

Personal Review: This was the first k-drama that I've ever watched and I loved it. It kinda reminded me of Lindsay Lohan's Freaky Friday but honestly this is way cuter! The kiss scenes were really creative and unexpected which kinda inspired a lot of #relationshipgoals vines.

4. Flower Boy Ramen Shop (2011)

Synopsis: Yang Eun-bi is a university student preparing for her civil service exam with the dream of being a high school teacher. She accidentally encounters Cha Chi-soo, the arrogant son of the biggest food conglomerate in Korea. Cha Chi-soo fascinates women with his good looks and charm. Eun-bi is attracted to him before she finds out that he is only a high school student and thus several years younger than her. However, her student-teaching assignment finds her not only working at the high school that Cha's family owns, but teaching his homeroom class. She grows to dislike him for his arrogance and lack of empathy. He, on the other hand, becomes fascinated with her because she is tough and athletic, unlike the other women he knows.

P.S Jung Ii Woo is the lead male, so you'll definitely have to expect a sexy make out scene ;)

3. The Heirs (2013)

Synopsis: Kim Tan is heir to the Empire Group sent to study abroad in the U.S. In reality it's a form of exile, as his elder half-brother back home schemes to take over the family business. While in the States, Kim Tan bumps into Cha Eun Sang, who arrived from Korea in search of her older sister. He feels himself falling for her, never realizing that she's the daughter of his family's housekeeper. When his fiancée Rachel Yoo arrives to bring him back to Korea, his heart is torn between love and duty.

No. of Episodes: 20

Ratings: 8.5/10

Personal Review: This show is a no-brainer. With both the leads being such highly respected actors/actresses in the industry, there's no doubt that the show would be a hit. However (don't hate me), I personally found the drama a little boring midway through as it was kinda like repeated scenes? Both the guys were in persuade of Eun Sang (Park Shin Hye) and it created rivalry and the scenes were slightly exaggerated.

2. Descendants of the Sun (2016)

Synopsis: UN peacekeeping troops are dispatched to the war-torn country of Uruk. Captain Yoo Shi Jin, team leader of the Special Warfare Command unit, meets Kang Mo Yeon, a volunteer doctor with Doctors Without Borders. 1. Beautiful Gong Shim (2016)

Synopsis: This drama is about the Love story of two sisters and two men. The talented older sister has everything, including a beautiful appearance, and her younger sister, who is less attractive but still has a warm heart. And two men appear in front of the siblings: a progressively more attractive man, who moved into a humble rental room on the rooftop of their building and another man who is handsome and wealthy from a plutocrat family. The romance-comedy drama depicts an eventful and unpredictable love story by the four people from such a warmhearted point of view.

No. of Episodes: 20

Ratings: 10/10

Personal Review: I think most of you will be shocked that I did not pick DOTS as the best drama, but let me explain to you why I chose this drama. The chemistry between the leads (Gong Shim and Ahn Dan-tae / Seok Joon-pyo) was perfect. Personally, it's the best rom-com k-drama I've ever seen. Gong Shim (Min Ah) was adorable and honestly her character was so lovable. Aha Dan-tae/ Seok Joon-pyo (Nam Gung Min) was funny and his facial expressions were spot on. The rich grandson (Seok Joon-Soo) and temporary heir of the family wasn't cocky or mean like how other K-Drama perceive a rich third generation to be.

To wrap things up, it's a very heartfelt drama which is relatable yet not too overly exaggerated to the extent that the less attractive girl is a complete outcast, a simple and sweet drama that will rip your hearts.

Watch or Not: WATCH!!!

Well, this is my personal opinion about the ten k-drama that I've watched. You can watch all of the above on KissAsian which provided all of the episodes with english subtitles.
